President: Andrew Johnson
Andrew Johnson resides at 2402 Four Holes Road, Orangeburg, S.C., 29115. Born March 25, 1949, Orangeburg County, S.C. He is the son of the late Harvey and Mary Inell Richardson-Johnson. He graduated from Bethune Memorial High School, Bowman, S.C., in 1967. He attended S.C. State College/S.C. State University where he earned a B.S.in Industrial Arts in 1975 and a Masters in Education in 1987. He is owner/president of AJ & R Enterprises, Inc., d/b/a He is a veteran of the US Army (March 3, 1969-March 2, 1971). He served in Vietnam and earned many awards, to include the Purple Heart for injuries received during combat and the Bronze Star medal w/ two oak leaf clusters for heroism. After completing two years of service in the US Army and earning an Honorable Discharge, he joined the SC Army National Guard in 1972. He attended Palmetto Military Academy, Army National Guard Training Site, Eastover, S.C., Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1981. He retired in 1993 at the rank of Captain (federal) and Major (state). He was Commander of the Headquarters/Headquarters Company, 751st Maintenance Battalion, Columbia, SC. He retired as a vocational teacher/educator in 2006 from SC Department of Juvenile Justice, Columbia, S.C. He is married to Lester Marie Daniels of Rowesville, S.C. Blessed parents of three girls: Andreaetta, Albernel and Angela. He is President of The Concerned Citizens of Whittaker Heights Community, Inc., Vice President of Orangeburg County Zoning Board of Appeals, Vice Chairman of SC Department of Social Services Advisory Board, member of the Army Air Force Mutual Aid Association, honored member of Stanford “Who’s Who” registry, life member of: Military Officers Association of America, SC Army National Guard Association, Palmetto Military Association and Veteran of Foreign Wars. He has received numerous awards recognizing his effective leadership skills and effective participation in the military, field of education and community. He has recently qualified for inclusion in the Stanford Who’s Who registry of executives, professionals and entrepreneurs. He is a member of Saint James Lodge # 8, Orangeburg, S.C and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Bowman, S.C., where he serves as a Deacon. |

President - Elect: David Smith
Graduate of Presbyterian College in 1988 with a degree in History and minor in Secondary Education. Certified in Driver's Education from Erskine College in summer of 1992. I have been teaching driver's training since 1992 at Whitmire High School, Berkeley High School and Barnwell High School. Currently teaching Social Studies at White Knoll High School. Married since 1997 to the former Angela Shealy of Columbia, SC. She is a 1st grade teacher in Calhoun County (Sandy Run Elementary). We have an 11 year old daughter, Katelyn, who is a 6th grader at Carolina Springs Middle School. Katelyn has been in remission from cancer since 2002!!!!! I am also the owner of Coaches Driving Academy in Moncks Corner and Orangeburg, SC. This company was started in 2002. Looking to expand to Lexington County in early 2012. I have been a member of SCDTSEA since 1992 and have been on the board for three years. I am currently the President-Elect and I am very excited about the changes going on in the association. |

Deborah Hartness, secretary for the SCDTEA has been a driving instructor for 8 years. She is married to Bob Hartness, owner of Hartness Driving Academy. Both Bob and Deborah are retired educators. They have two daughters, Audrey & Dianne. Bob & Deborah reside in Newberry, SC. |

Newsletter Editor & Historian: Joe Sabbadino
I earned a BA and served as a GA in Physical Education at Bob Jones University. I then received my MA in Secondary Driver & Traffic Safety Education from Appalachian State University. I also served as a Research Assistant at Texas A&M, while taking additional driver & traffic safety education courses. I have been a full-time driver education teacher at Bob Jones Academy for over 40 years. As well as a part-time driver educator at Greenville Technical College and at TOPS (Bob Jones University) for over 15 years. I established Sabbadino Driving School, LLC in 2010 which I own and operate as a full-time driving instructor. I am a member in the South Carolina Driver & Traffic Safety Education association, and have been an officer in SCDTSEA for over 40 years as President and Newsletter Editor. I've been a member of the American Driver & Traffic Safety Education Association for over 30 years. I have served as President-Elect and President for the Southeast Region ADTSEA. The South Carolina Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association is a state association of instructors of driver and traffic safety education, comprised of representatives from both the public and private sectors.
South Carolina Highways
As an association, one of our goals is to ensure that all of the highways and roads throught the entire state of South Carolina are as safe as possible for every driver.

The South Carolina Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association is proud of the work we perform in the beautiful state of South Carolina. We hope that our efforts continue to make South Carolina roads a safer place to drive.
Texting & Driving Campaign
We will continue to work diligently to share knowledge and promote a greater understanding of the issue to end the dangerous practice of distracted driving on our state’s roadways.
